This 1972 MG MGB roadster was cosmetically and mechanically refurbished under previous ownership with work included repainting the exterior in metallic blue, overhauling the 1.8-liter inline-four, and replacing the soft top. The car was acquired by the seller on BaT in June 2023, and subsequent work included the installation of a rebuilt overdrive unit on the four-speed manual transmission as well as repairing the reverse lights, fitting a heater control cable and A-pillar seals, and replacing the clutch, fuel pump, front brake pads, clutch hydraulic cylinders, brake failure switch O-rings, and instrument lights. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, 15″ Minilite-style wheels, a lowered suspension, front disc brakes, a black tonneau cover, chrome bumpers, tan upholstery, and a Kenwood stereo head unit. This MGB is now offered with a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The body was reportedly soda blasted before rust repairs were performed in 2011, and the car is said to have been repainted in House of Kolor Midnight Blue Pearl. A replacement Robbins soft top has been installed, and additional equipment includes a black tonneau cover, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers. The seller states that the wiring to the reverse lights was repaired in June 2024, and A-pillar seals were installed under current ownership. Photos of scratches and a paint chip on the rocker panels are viewable in the gallery below along with pitting on the mirrors, vent window frames, and bumpers.

Silver 15″ Minilite-style wheels are mounted with 195/65 Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season tires that show 2019 date codes. The lowered suspension features Spax adjustable rear dampers, and stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The braided stainless-steel brake hoses were installed, and the steering rack, front and rear springs, brake master cylinder, front rotors, and rear drums, were reportedly replaced in 2023. The front brake pads and the O-rings in the brake failure switch assembly were replaced under current ownership.

The bucket seats are trimmed in tan upholstery and are complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Appointments include MG-branded door sill plates, three-point seatbelts, a wooden shift knob, and a Kenwood head unit. A heater control cable was installed under current ownership. There are marks on the right side of the passenger’s seat.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added under current ownership. The total chassis mileage is unknown. The instrument lights were replaced along with the high-beam indicator light in June 2024, according to the seller.

The 1.8-liter inline-four was overhauled under previous ownership and is equipped with an aluminum cylinder head, an aftermarket “fast road” camshaft, a Ron Davis aluminum radiator, dual SU carburetors, K&N air filters, an aluminum valve cover, a tubular header, and an aftermarket stainless-steel exhaust system. The engine is also said to be fitted with Wiseco flat-top pistons and APC head fasteners. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2023, and maintenance in July 2024 included replacing the fuel pump and an oil change. Work performed in preparation for the sale involved repairing a vacuum leak, adjusting the timing, and installing a breather filter.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit. A rebuilt overdrive unit was installed in July 2024 along with a replacement clutch and clutch hydraulic cylinders.
