This 1969 Datsun 1600 roadster is powered by a 1.6-liter R16 inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in white over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes 14″ alloy wheels, front disc brakes, a decklid-mounted luggage rack, and dual side-draft carburetors. Acquired by the seller in 2023, this 1600 Roadster is now offered at no reserve with partial service records, a repair manual, two removable soft tops, a tonneau cover, various spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in white, and features include a hood scoop, a left-side mirror, a decklid-mounted luggage rack, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders. Dings and other body blemishes are noted on various body panels. The windshield seal and decklid weather stripping were replaced in February 2022. A tonneau cover along with two removable soft tops are included in the sale, although the seller notes that the tonneau cover has shrunk and the soft tops are in poor condition.
The 14″ alloy wheels are mounted with 175/65 Mohave Touring A/S tires showing 2020 and 2021 date codes. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. Work performed in August 2021 involved rebuilding the brake master cylinder, machining the rear brake drums, and replacing the right rear axle seal as well as the rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes.
The bucket seats are upholstered in black vinyl and are joined by red carpeting. An analog clock, lap seatbelts, and a fire extinguisher are further elements. The seller notes that the heater core has been bypassed, the blower motor and radio do not work, the passenger door lock pull is broken, and the driver’s door brake is missing.
Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown, and the seller states that the left turn signal does not self-cancel.
The 1.6-liter R16 inline-four features dual side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 96 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. Work performed since 2021 involved adjusting the valves and carburetors as well as replacing the thermostat, fuel pump, oil pan gasket, cooling fan drive belt, starter, battery cable, spark plugs, and various coolant hoses. The seller notes that the alternator does not charge properly.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch master and slave cylinders were replaced in August 2021.
