This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible is powered by a remanufactured 390ci V8 paired with a C6 three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in red over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, power steering, power-assisted brakes, 14″ steel wheels with turbine-style covers, a Pertronix ignition system, a custom dual exhaust system, an AM radio, and a heater. The car was purchased by the seller in 2018 and was later driven from Oregon to Illinois in 2022 to then traverse the complete Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. This Galaxie 500XL is now offered with service records, literature, a car cover, trophies, a scale model, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in red in 1990, and exterior equipment includes a power-retractable black soft top, a top boot, quad headlights, side mirrors, back-up lights, dual exhaust outlets, Galaxie 500XL badging, and chrome bumpers and trim. A tear in the soft top has been patched, and blemishes around the exterior are highlighted in photos and videos provided.

The 14″ steel wheels were replaced under current ownership and feature turbine-style covers. They are mounted with Hanook Optimo H724 thin-whitewall tires. Stopping is provided by power-assisted drums at each corner, and the car was factory equipped with power steering as well as front coil springs and rear leaf springs. An additional rear spring has been added.

The cabin houses seats upholstered in black pleated vinyl, and interior appointments include a locking glovebox, a center console, seatbelts, a pushbutton AM radio, and a heater. Noted work since 2018 has included adding insulation to the center console and replacing the seat cushions, seat belts, and door window mechanisms.

The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 20k of which were added under current ownership. The seller believes the odometer is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown.

The remanufactured 390ci V8 from S&J Engines was installed in 2015 and features a Pertronix electronic ignition, a custom dual exhaust system, and a gold air cleaner and Thunderbird valve covers. Work under current ownership has included replacing the starter, starter solenoid, and fuel pump.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed C6 automatic transmission that was rebuilt in August 2022. Additional underside photos are provided below.
