This 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500 was acquired by the current owner in 2017 and underwent a mechanical refurbishment. Work consisted of stripping and refinishing the engine bay, rebuilding the engine, installing a Weber downdraft carburetor, a COMP Cams camshaft, and Armor Coat exhaust headers, and replacing the clutch, transverse leaf spring, brake master cylinder, brake calipers, tie rod ends, and shocks. The car is powered by a replacement 1.5-liter inline-four linked with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Carmine Red over Black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a rear luggage rack, front disc brakes, 13″ alloy wheels, a wood-veneer dashboard, an Alpine cassette stereo, and a heater. This Spitfire is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with spare parts, service records, a car cover, and a clean New Jersey title.

The Spitfire was introduced in 1962 and manufactured through 1980, and the 1500 was the final model offered from 1975 to 1980. This example is finished in Carmine Red (CAA) and features a black convertible top, dual side mirrors, a rear luggage rack, and black bumpers.

The 13″ alloy wheels are mounted with 175/70 Cooper Response tires. Stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums. Work under current ownership consisted of replacing the transverse leaf spring, brake master cylinder, brake calipers, tie rod ends, stub axles, and shocks.

The bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl upholstery complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Amenities include a wood-veneer dashboard, a wood shifter knob, an Alpine cassette stereo, and a heater.

The steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 1.5-liter inline-four was reportedly rebuilt under current ownership and fitted with the following:

  • Bearings
  • Pistons
  • Rings
  • Oil pump
  • Weber downdraft carburetor conversion
  • Thermostat
  • COMP Cams camshaft
  • Armor Coat exhaust headers
  • Hydraulic bonnet lift kit
  • Oil pressure switch
  • Polybutylene bushings
  • Various engine gaskets and seals

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work under current ownership consisted of machining the flywheel and replacing the clutch.

An assortment of spare parts accompany the vehicle.
