406-Powered 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible 5-Speed

This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible was acquired by the current owner in 1994 and subsequently underwent a multi-decade refurbishment that included repainting the car in yellow with a black soft top. It is powered by a 406ci that is said to have produced 393 horsepower at the rear wheels while utilizing a Dart block, a SCAT rotating assembly, AFR 195 heads, and a COMP hydraulic roller camshaft. The engine breathes through a Spectre Y-pipe intake linked with a QFT carburetor and a dual-plane intake manifold. Drivetrain equipment includes a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, a Currie rear end, a TrueTrac differential, 31-spline axles, and 3.70:1 gears, and the car rides on an Air Ride adjustable air suspension and staggered-width Foose wheels over four-wheel disc brakes. The cabin features Corbeau front seats, SS trim, Dakota Digital instrumentation, and controllers for the exhaust cutouts and air springs. This modified Impala is offered on dealer consignment with records and a clean Washington state title.

The exterior was repainted in yellow and fitted with a black soft top during the refurbishment, and the bumpers and trim are said to have been re-chromed. Further details include aftermarket headlights, twin antennas, dual-speed wipers, chrome grille trim, and a recessed tail panel.

Five-spoke Foose 17″ front and 20″ rear wheels are mounted with Toyo Proxes tires. The car rides on an Air Ride RidePro adjustable suspension and tubular A-arms. It is further equipped with Unisteer power rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes.

The Corbeau front bucket seats and factory-style rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl, and they are joined by SS interior trim. Equipment includes a Hurst shifter, vent windows, and an Air Ride suspension control module mounted in the center console.

The Grant steering wheel sits on an Ididit tilt column ahead of a Dakota Digital gauge cluster with a tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, a digital display, and supplementary readouts. The five-digit odometer shows 2,300 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

A coating was applied inside the trunk that houses an Optima battery, an electrical cutoff switch, a fire extinguisher, and the valve block and air compressors for the Air Ride system.

The 406ci V8 is said to have been assembled with a Dart block, a SCAT rotating assembly, ported Air Flow Research cylinder heads, and a COMP hydraulic roller camshaft and 1.5-ratio rockers. The engine breathes through a Y-design intake pipe and fabricated plenum atop an Edelbrock dual-plane manifold and a QFT 750-cfm carburetor, all of which are chrome-plated. A March accessory drive system sits behind an aluminum radiator and electric fan, and an American Autowire harness was installed during the build.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO600 five-speed manual transmission and Currie rear end with a TrueTrac limited-slip differential, 31-spline axles, and 3.70:1 gears. A Centerforce clutch kit is said to have been installed, and tubular headers link to a dual exhaust system with QTP electric cutouts and Flowmaster mufflers.
