This 1974 Triumph TR6 was purchased new at Koster-Swope Imports in Louisville, Kentucky, and remained with its original owner until 2015. The car was later sold on BaT in August 2021 before it was acquired by the current owner in 2022, and work under current ownership reportedly included replacing the right-rear wheel hub and rear springs as well as adding a spin-on oil filter adaptor. Finished in red over black leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six mated with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a chrome luggage rack, 15” steel wheels, a bullet-style side mirror, and a push-button cassette stereo. This TR6 is now offered with a 1974 purchase agreement, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a service manual, service records, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished in Pimento (72) and received a two-stage repaint under previous ownership. Rubber weatherstripping was replaced at that time and a replacement black soft top was installed in 2016. Additional features include halogen headlights, a chrome luggage rack, a bullet-style driver’s side mirror, a front air dam, Union Jack graphics on the rear quarter panels, and chrome bumpers with rubber overriders. The seller states that six of the snaps at the base of the soft top were replaced in preparation for the sale.
Steel 15” with polished trim rings are mounted with 185-series Universal Sport redline tires that were installed in 2016. Additional work under previous ownership included rebuilding the calipers and wheel cylinders as well as replacing the brake hoses and pads, suspension bushings, tie rods, steering rack, and brake master cylinder. The seller states that the rear springs and right-rear wheel hub were replaced under current ownership.
The seats were recovered in 2016 with black leather upholstery and a color-coordinated carpet kit was also installed. Amenities include a locking glove compartment, a Sanyo push-button cassette stereo, a wood shift knob, and carpeted floor mats. A tear in the dash pad is present above the choke lever, and there is a crack below the right glove compartment hinge.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer while gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership. The previous owner indicated that the total mileage is unknown.
The 2.5-liter inline-six was retrofitted with a spin-on oil filter adaptor and received an oil change in 2022. The dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were rebuilt by Macy’s Garage of Dayton, Ohio in 2016. Additional work at that time reportedly included cleaning the radiator, rebuilding the starter and alternator, and replacing the following components:
- Fuel tank, sending unit, lines, and pump
- Rear main seal
- Water pump
- Vacuum hoses
- Intake, exhaust, and valve cover gaskets
The four-speed manual transmission was refreshed in 2016 with a resurfaced flywheel and replacement clutch, hydraulic cylinders, synchronizers, bearings, and pressure plate. The rear differential was also re-sealed at that time and the u-joints were replaced.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists colors, serial numbers, and a build date of 31 August 1973.
