This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in white over burgundy MB-Tex. Equipment includes a black convertible top, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, and a heater. The seller purchased the car in 1995 and has since added approximately 7k miles. This W113 SL is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and a Vermont title in the seller’s name.
The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example is finished in white and features a black soft top, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights. The seller notes that the soft top fabric needs to be replaced and one of the top cranks is missing. The sale does not include a Pagoda hardtop.
The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with 185/75 Goodyear whitewall tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs.
The cabin is upholstered in burgundy MB-Tex. The seller notes that the dashpad and steering wheel are cracked, the turn signal stalk needs to be held down for a left turn, and neither the radio nor the clock works.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, approximately 7k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in 2017 included preparing the radiator and replacing the thermostat. The fuel system was cleaned in 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A section of the floorboard was replaced in 2012. Corrosion is visible on some underbody components.
The title carries a Classic Vehicle brand.
