This 1950 MG TD is powered by an overbored 1,250cc XPAG inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and finished in Ivory over green vinyl. Features include a tan soft top, 15″ silver-finished steel wheels, a louvered hood, chrome bumpers, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a folding windshield. The car is said to have been refurbished in the late 1980s, and the seller purchased it in 2012. Subsequent work has included replacing the brakes, clutch, and seat cushions as well as a rebuild of the lower end of the engine. This TD is now offered with side curtains, a tonneau cover, a top boot, a tool kit, a shop manual, a jack, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Ivory, and features include a tan folding soft top, a tonneau cover, a louvered hood, a folding windshield, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, running boards, wind wings, and chrome bumpers with overriders. A set of side curtains is included in the sale. Stone chips are noted.
The 15″ silver-finished steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Nexen tires. A spare wheel and tire are affixed to the rear. Braking is handled by drums at each corner, and the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and shoes were replaced in 2013. The rear leaf springs are said to have been rebuilt in October 2017.
The cabin houses a split bench seat trimmed in green vinyl, and amenities include a passenger-side grab handle, map pockets, lap belts, MG-branded floor mats, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The seat cushions were replaced in 2016.
The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column and frames Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 100-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inoperative inset clock as well as gauges for amperage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors. It is said to have been overbored and converted to a negative ground system under previous ownership. The ignition points, spark plugs, and condenser were replaced in May 2018, the timing chain was replaced in January 2019, the rocker arm assembly was rebuilt in June 2019, and the bearings, pushrods, gaskets, and a cracked piston ring in the #4 cylinder were replaced in 2019. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale and a screw-on oil filter adapter is fitted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch assembly was replaced in July 2020. An undercoating was applied under previous ownership.
The data plate describes the car as a left-hand-drive TD model produced for the North American market. The car is titled to VIN “0581” without the TD prefix shown on the data plate.
The engine number is shown above and matches the number stamped on the data plate.
