This 1986 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren convertible is one of 245 examples modified by the American Sunroof Company for the model year and was acquired new by the owner’s father at Hines Park Lincoln-Mercury on June 15, 1987. ASC additions include a tan convertible top that stows in place of the rear seat as well as a revised trunk lid, top cover, body panels, fog lights, and clear aero headlight and taillight covers. Power is provided by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission and the car is finished in black over tan leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes a Kenwood cassette stereo, a leather shift knob, a 140-mph speedometer, a Whistler radar detector, basketweave 15″ wheels, and Recaro bucket seats with headrest speakers. This Capri ASC Mclaren has 81k miles and is now offered with service records, repair manuals, historical documents and pictures, an owner’s manual, and a Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in black with a tan soft top and ASC additions include a revised front fascia, trunk lid, body-color top cover, side skirts, ASC McLaren badging, and clear aero headlight and taillight covers. The car was damaged while being serviced at a dealership in 1988 and subsequent repairs included replacing the bumper cover, header panel, grille, and fender. There is a crack in the front air dam and paint and body blemishes are displayed in the gallery. The seller notes that the roof latch on the convertible cover is missing a spring and that the foglights do not work.

Basketweave 15″ wheels wear 5.0 SC center caps and are mounted with BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires. Power steering and front disc brakes were factory equipped.

The Recaro front bucket seats have headrest-mounted speakers and are trimmed in tan leather upholstery. Wood veneer lines the dashboard and center console and equipment includes air conditioning, a Kenwood cassette stereo, a leather shift knob, a Whistler radar detector, and power windows and door locks. The radio does not have reception and the aftermarket alarm key fobs are missing. The seller notes that the clutch pedal requires adjustment.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The “O’Boost EGO” and “Low Fuel” warning lights remain illuminated at all times. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 81k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.

The 5.0-liter V8 features multiport fuel injection and was rated at 200 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller notes that the electrical system has a slow drain.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

The dealer sales addendum lists the total price of $24,714 and the Manufacturer’s literature, Bloomfield Collision repair invoice, McLaren parts catalog, repair manuals, historical documents and pictures, and service records accompany the vehicle.

The Carfax report shows the aforementioned damage report and a duplicate title issued.

The Michigan title lists a “Duplicate” brand.
