This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is a triple-black convertible that is powered by a replacement 396ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a Moser 9″ rear end with a limited-slip differential. The car rides on a lowered suspension with Ridetech coilovers, and the staggered-diameter Billet Specialties wheels are mounted over four-wheel disc brakes. Additional equipment includes power steering, front bucket seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Hurst shifter, ancillary instrumentation, and a push-button radio along with a Holley carburetor, an MSD distributor, long-tube headers, and aftermarket headlights. Acquired by the seller in August 2022, this Chevelle SS 396 convertible is offered with a Virginia title.

The car is finished in Tuxedo Black with a black soft top, and equipment includes faux hood vents, quad headlights, chrome bumpers, Super Sport badging, quarter vent windows, and aftermarket headlights. An issue with the right-rear window is reported along with chips in the finish.

Billet Specialties 18″ front and 20″ rear wheels are mounted with a mixed set of Sentury and Lexani tires. The car rides on a lowered suspension with Ridetech coilovers, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs with Wilwood rear calipers.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl, and equipment consists of a push-button stereo, a center console, and a Hurst shifter. Corrosion is noted on the trunk floor.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and a fuel level gauge. An AEM air/fuel ratio readout is mounted to the A-pillar, and a trio of ancillary gauges are fitted beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 12k of which were added under current ownership.

The replacement 396ci V8 breathes through a Holley 750-cfm carburetor and is equipped with an MSD distributor.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Moser 9″ rear end with a limited-slip differential. Exhaust gases flow from long-tube headers to a stainless-steel dual-outlet system.

Decoding the data plate reveals the following production information:

  • Build Date: 09C – Third week of September production

  • Body: BAL 20 – Baltimore assembly plant, body number

There is a lien on the car, and the seller’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.
