This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible is powered by a turbocharged 145ci flat-six paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Saddle Tan over matching vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a tan convertible soft top, a louvered rear decklid, 13″ steel wheels, four-wheel independent suspension, Pertronix electronic ignition, a retro-styled digital radio, and a heater. Refurbishment work in 2006-07 included repairing rust damage, replacing the top, and re-plating or replacing the trim along with rebuilding the turbocharger, differential, brakes, and more as detailed below. The battery, voltage regulator, and fuel lines were replaced in 2023 along with the wheel bearings and the front brake lines and wheel cylinders. With known history in Michigan and Florida, the car was acquired by the selling dealer in April 2024 and subsequently repainted. This Corvair Monza convertible is now offered with service records, spare parts, and a Florida title.
The Corvair was the first unibody model produced by Fisher Body, and this example was factory-finished in Saddle Tan (932). Rust repairs and body-panel replacements were carried out before a repaint in 2007, and the selling dealer reports another exterior repaint in preparation for the sale. Features include a replacement tan convertible soft top and a matching top boot in addition to quad T-3 headlights, dual side mirrors, and bright bumpers.
Steel 13″ wheels with a mixed set of covers are mounted with 185/80 Hankook Radial H714 thin-whitewall tires that have 2008 production-date codes. The Corvair’s factory independent suspension utilized coil springs all around and swing axles at the rear, and it was rebuilt in 2006. IECO quick-steering arms and 1964-style finned brake drums were installed at that time, and the wheel bearings were replaced in 2023 along with the front hubs, brake lines, and wheel cylinders.
The front bucket seats and the rear bench are upholstered in Saddle vinyl (705), and the door panels are trimmed to match. Interior appointments include a heater, aftermarket front headrests, a vintage-styled digital radio, a tissue dispenser, and front lap belts. A crack in the dashboard, above the radio, is depicted in the gallery.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for manifold pressure, cylinder-head temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 29k miles, approximately 20 of which were added under current ownership. The car’s Florida title carries a “not actual” odometer notation, and total mileage is unknown.
The rear-mounted, air-cooled, and turbocharged 145ci flat-six was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, and a Purolator fuel-pressure regulator and Pertronix electronic-ignition components have been fitted. The turbocharger was rebuilt in 2006, and its housing was ceramic-coated along with the inlet and outlet. In February 2023, the battery, voltage regulator, and fuel lines were replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, and an IECO shifter is in place. The differential was rebuilt in 2006 with 3.27:1 final-drive gearing, and the clutch was replaced at that time. The exhaust system has been ceramic-coated.
