This 1971 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was acquired by the seller’s father circa 1978 and is powered by an overbored LS5 V8 that is backed by a retrofitted three-speed automatic transmission. The car is equipped with a single roll hoop, 15″ Hurricane-style wheels, side-exit exhaust pipes, and a domed hood. The front end has been modified to remove the pop-up headlights, and the body is finished in orange with darker side stripes. Additional features include electronic ignition, an electric fuel pump, a removable hardtop, and disc brakes. Acquired by the seller in 2011, this C3 Corvette is now offered at no reserve with the removed four-speed manual transmission and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Ontario Orange (987), and an aftermarket domed hood and side stripes have been added. The pop-up headlights have been removed and filled in. A removable hardtop and side-exit exhaust pipes are installed.
Hurricane-style 15” wheels are mounted with 235/60 front and 295/50 rear Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires. Stopping power is provided by ventilated rotors at each corner, and the car is equipped with a fully independent suspension.
The bucket seats were trimmed from the factory in Saddle leather. The driver’s seat was reinstalled in preparation for the sale, and some photos in the gallery show the removed aftermarket seat. A single roll hoop has been installed, and switches are housed in the center console for the ignition, fuel pump, and line lock. A fire extinguisher is located behind the seats. Wear on the carpets and throughout the interior is depicted in the gallery below.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and frames a 160-mph speedometer and an aftermarket tachometer. A clock, an ammeter, and gauges for fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership.
The seller notes that the 454ci LS5 V8 was bored .030″ over at some point prior to 1980 and that it is equipped with Doug’s Headers and side pipes as well as an electric fuel pump and electronic ignition.
The engine block stamping is shown above. The CPH suffix is consistent with a 454ci V8 for use with a manual transmission.
The car left the factory equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, which was replaced with a three-speed automatic transmission prior to 1980. The removed transmission will accompany the car.
The current Ohio title lists the mileage as 47,235.
