This 1962 Porsche 356B Roadster is one of 249 “twin grille” roadsters built with bodywork from Belgian coachbuilder D’Ieteren Frères, and it was reportedly acquired by the current owner’s father in 1971. The car has been refinished in red over gray leatherette and is powered by a 1.6-liter Super 90 flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include a black soft top, 15″ steel wheels, body-color bumpers, a cassette radio, and front bucket seats. This 356B Roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with a copy of the Kardex, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a workshop manual, service records, and a clean California title.

A successor to the Convertible D, the 356B roadster was introduced for the 1960 model year and was updated for its third and final year with T6 bodywork incorporating dual rear grilles. Prior to that transition, production was moved from Karosseriewerke Drauz in Germany to Belgian importer D’Ieteren. This D’leteren-built body came finished from the factory in Slate Grey and has been repainted red. Equipment includes a black soft top, a chrome driver-side mirror, a windshield washer system, a removable windshield frame, and body-color bumpers with chrome overriders. There is rust around the body, and the seller notes various paint cracks, dents, oxidized trim, and fading of the soft top.

The 15″ vented steel wheels wear Deluxe hubcaps and are mounted with 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that show date codes from 2015. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner. One of the center caps is missing.

The front bucket seats have been reupholstered in Light Gray leatherette, and interior appointments include lap belts, a cassette radio, and a body-color painted dashboard.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames green-letter VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline as well as a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 1.6-liter 616/7 Super 90 flat-four is equipped with dual Solex carburetors and was rebuilt in 2004. The carburetors and fuel pump were reportedly rebuilt in 2020, at which time the fuel hoses, fuel level sending unit, and battery were replaced. Replacement spark plugs were installed in April 2024.

Engine stamping P*804222* is shown above and corresponds to a Type 616/7 Super 90 engine, and a matching number is listed on the Porsche CoA. A photo of the transaxle number (50034) is provided in the gallery.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a 741/2 four-speed manual transaxle. Engine and transmission oil leaks are noted. Rust on the underbody can be seen in the gallery.

The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows a build date of January 2, 1962 and lists the factory colors and serial numbers.

The California title is listed as a duplicate.
