This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL spent over four decades with the same family before being acquired by the selling dealer’s father on BaT in April 2024. It is finished in Dark Maroon over beige upholstery and powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a beige convertible top, a removable hardtop, an Alpine cassette radio, and 14″ steel wheels with painted hubcaps. This W113 SL is now offered at no reserve in Massachusetts by the selling dealer on behalf of their father with service records, spare parts, a tool kit, an indoor car cover, and a clean Illinois title.
Designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq, the W113 SL was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example is finished in Dark Maroon (460) with contrasting pinstripes and features a body-color removable hardtop as well as a replacement beige soft top that was installed around 1982. A driver-side mirror, bright-finished bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets are further details. The selling dealer notes evidence of previously repaired front-end damage. The power antenna does not work, and dings and paint chips are noted.
Body-color 14″ steel wheels feature hubcaps with painted centers and are mounted with 185/75 Hankook Optimo whitewall tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. Work in 2021 involved refurbishing the brake calipers as well as replacing the rotors, pads, and rear hoses. The brake booster and master cylinder were subsequently replaced in 2022.
The low-back bucket seats are trimmed in beige upholstery with perforated central inserts. Equipment includes an Alpine cassette radio, a heater, and lap belts. The removed Becker radio is included in the sale. The dash-mounted clock does not work, and replacement heater control levers are included in the sale.
The two-spoke steering wheel is paired with a floor-mounted gear shifter, which was rebuilt with new bushings in 2021. VDO instrumentation consists of a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline accompanied by a 140-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 32k miles.
The 2.5-liter M129 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and produced 170 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque when new. Work between 2021 and 2022 involved rebuilding the injection pump and replacing the following:
- Water pump
- Thermostat
- Coolant hoses
- Spark plugs and wires
- Distributor
- Fuel tank and sending unit
- Fuel pump
- Fuel injectors
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The fluids for the transmission and differential were last replaced in 2021. Rust-repair was previously performed on the driver-side floor, and rust is noted on the exhaust, trunk floor, and underside.
A hardtop stand, spare parts, an indoor car cover, and tools will accompany the car along with service records that can be viewed in the gallery.
