This Superformance MKIII is a Cobra replica that was assembled in 1999 and is said to have remained under original ownership until acquired at an estate sale by the seller in 2018. It is powered by a 427ci Ford V8 paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and an 8.8″ independent rear axle, and it is finished in silver with black center stripes over black leather upholstery. Equipment includes 15″ Halibrand-style knockoff wheels, disc brakes, Cobra Valley sway bars, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, quick-jack bumperettes, a Talbot Berlin-style mirror, a single roll hoop, and side-exit exhaust outlets. This Cobra replica is now offered in Rhode Island with manufacturer’s literature, the factory soft top with sliding side windows, two tonneau covers, two car covers, and expired New Hampshire registration describing it as a 1965 Ford Cobra.
The fiberglass bodywork is finished in silver with black center stripes and features quick-jack bumperettes, a hood scoop, fender vents, wind wings, a Talbot Berlin-style mirror, a single roll hoop, a Le Mans-style fuel filler cap, and side-exit exhaust outlets with perforated heat shields. A soft top, sliding side windows, and two tonneau covers will accompany the car.
Halibrand-style 15” wheels are secured with safety-wired knock-off spinners and are mounted with 255/60 front and 275/60 rear Mikey Thompson Sportsman S/T tires that are said to have been installed in preparation for the sale. Cobra Valley R/T-AFR sway bars have been fitted, along with adjustable struts. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.
The low-back bucket seats are trimmed in black leather upholstery and are joined by a color-coordinated dashboard fascia, door panels, and carpeting. Interior elements include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, tinted sunvisors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, latch-and-link racing harnesses, a 12-volt charging outlet, a fire extinguisher, and floor mats with embroidered Carol Shelby signatures.
Smiths instrumentation consists of a reverse sweep 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel level. A Lucas amperage gauge is also installed. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 10k miles.
The front-hinged hood opens to reveal a 427ci Ford V8 equipped with a Holley carburetor, billet pulleys, and Cobra-branded valve covers. Fluid services were reportedly performed in May 2024 along with replacement of the oil pan gasket.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec 3550 five-speed manual transmission and a Ford 8.8″ independent rear axle.
The chassis number K1399AM1639 shown above matches the VIN listed on the New Hampshire registration, which expired in July 2024 and describes the car as a 1965 Ford Cobra.
