This 1964 Pontiac Tempest Custom spent years in California until it was exported approximately 16 years ago to Canada, where it received a refurbishment. Work included a repaint in red, reupholstering the interior in black, and rebuilding the 326ci V8. The car was later purchased in 2017 by the seller, who has since driven it roughly 3k miles. Equipment includes a two-speed automatic transmission, a black convertible top, power steering, 14″ steel wheels, a heater, and a period-look radio with auxiliary input. The wiring harness was replaced in 2014. This Tempest Custom convertible is now offered at no reserve in Canada with a set of black California license plates, the removed radio, records, and Ontario registration.

Finished from the factory in Marimba Red (L), the car was repainted during the refurbishment. Additional work at that time included repairing corrosion using replacement sheet metal. The seller recommends rechroming the rear bumper and notes that the doors could use adjustment.

The 14″ steel wheels are mounted with Goodyear tires. The car is equipped with power steering.

Trimmed from the factory in Maroon vinyl, the cabin has been reupholstered in black, and its door panels and seatbelts were replaced in June 2007. A period-look, Pontiac-branded radio is mounted in the dashboard, and the removed unit is included in the sale. Cracks can be seen in the dashboard pad and the seller states the heater control to change airflow from floor to defrost is nonfunctional.

The steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 84k miles but does not work. Approximately 3k miles have been added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown. The seller notes hairline cracks in the steering wheel.

The 326ci V8 was factory equipped with a two-barrel carburetor, and the unit was rebuilt in September 2007. The wiring harness was replaced a decade ago.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a two-speed automatic transmission. Additional photographs of the underside are shown in the gallery below.

Decoding the trim tag reveals the following information:

  • Date 12E – Produced during the fifth week of December
  • Style: 64 2167 – 1964 Tempest Convertible
  • Body: PO 1232 – Pontiac, Michigan, assembly and production number
  • Trim: 212 – Maroon vinyl upholstery
  • Paint: L – Marimba Red paint

The sale includes the removed Pontiac-branded radio, records, and a pair of black California license plates.

The vehicle is being offered on its Ontario registration, a form that serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada. The sale does not include a title.
