This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in white over burgundy MB-Tex and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, power steering, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, a Becker AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. This W113 SL was acquired by the seller in 2013 and is now offered with a copy of the data card and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s company.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example came finished from the factory in white (050) and was repainted under prior ownership. Features include a black soft top, a removable hardtop, a retractable antenna, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires measuring 205/70. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The master cylinder, rotors, calipers, and pads were replaced in 2013 along with the shocks, front wheel bearings, and steering components.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in burgundy MB-Tex that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include a Becker Europa AM/FM radio with an auxiliary input, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and air conditioning.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 195 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque when new. Work in 2013 included installing PerTronix electronic ignition and replacing the alternator, starter, ignition components, and fuel injectors along with refreshing the cooling and air conditioning systems. An oil change was performed in 2023.

Engine stamping 130-983-12-013638 is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on a copy of the data card provided in the gallery.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
