This 1960 Triumph TR3A was acquired by the seller in 2018 as a non-running project that was reportedly parked by its second owner in 1973 due to electrical problems. Subsequent recommissioning involved a repaint and bodywork along with a rebuild of the four-speed manual transmission and carburetors and the installation of a replacement 1,991cc inline-four, fuel tank, wiring harness, battery, tires, and water pump. The car is finished in black over red upholstery, and equipment includes a black convertible top, a tonneau cover, chrome trim, front disc brakes, 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps, and a banjo-style steering wheel. This TR3A is now offered with service records, a car cover, side curtains, a tonneau cover, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name, listing it as a 1962 model.
The car is finished in black and was repainted in 2023 following repairs of the front fenders and replacement of the floors, sills, trunk floor, and pedal mechanism. A replacement black convertible top was also installed, and additional equipment includes a tonneau cover, fender-mounted side mirrors, a cowl hood vent, and a chrome grille and bumperettes. The front turn signals and taillight assemblies were replaced under current ownership, and the brake lights are inoperative. Paint flaws throughout the body are shown in the gallery.
The 15″ steel wheels feature hubcaps and are mounted with Federal tires measuring 165/80. The car was factory equipped with a coil-sprung independent front suspension and a semi-elliptic leaf-spring rear suspension. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features replacement bucket seats trimmed in red upholstery with white piping complemented by color-coordinated door panels and replacement black carpets. Amenities include lap belts, a lockable glovebox, door pockets, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. The heater does not work.
The banjo-style steering wheel fronts a Jaeger 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage are positioned at the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The oil pressure and water temperature gauges were replaced by the seller.
The replacement 1,991cc OHV inline-four was reportedly sourced from a 1959 TR3 and installed by the seller. The dual SU carburetors were rebuilt, and the fuel tank, lines, and pump were replaced along with the wiring harness, generator, battery, water pump, and coolant lines.
A four-speed manual transmission reportedly sourced from a TR4 was installed under prior ownership and rebuilt in 2022. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced and the hydraulic system overhauled under current ownership. The seller notes that the clutch could use adjustment.
