This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 396 convertible was sold new by Friendly Chevrolet of Dallas, Texas, and it remained with the original owner until 1990 when it was acquired by the seller from the original owner’s son. Power is provided by a Turbo-Jet 396 V8 that displaces 402ci V8 and is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is finished in Fathom Blue with a white soft top, and additional details include 14″ Sport wheels, front disc brakes, a domed hood, and a black grille and taillight panel. The cabin is trimmed in blue vinyl upholstery and fitted with a cassette stereo and bench seating. This SS 396 convertible is now offered with a build sheet, initial sales documentation, the owner’s manual, service records dating back to 1974, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Fathom Blue (28), and it was repainted and fitted with a replacement white soft top in the 1990s. Details include a domed hood, a black grille and taillight panel, two side mirrors, hideaway windshield wipers, and chrome bumpers. The vinyl below the rear window is torn and a sticker is covering a scratch on the front-right fender.

The 14″ Sport wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. The car was factory-equipped with the F41 Special Performance Suspension and power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The bench seats are upholstered in blue vinyl and joined by a matching convertible top boot cover. A cassette stereo was installed under current ownership, and the seller states the air conditioning system was recharged in preparation for the sale.

The SS-branded steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 21k of which were added under current ownership.

The Turbo-Jet 396 V8 displaced 402ci from the factory and was rated at 350 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque when new.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.

A build sheet, the owner’s manual, initial sales documents, and service records dating back to 1974 are included in the sale.
