This 2002 Saab 9-3 Viggen convertible was purchased new by the seller in Florida before it was relocated to New York in 2005, and it is one of approximately 30 US-market examples that were finished in Laser Red for the model year. The car is said to have been modified with revised engine management software, a rear anti-sway bar, and a steering-rack brace. Powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, the car is equipped with a black convertible top, fog lights, a rear spoiler, 17″ five-spoke alloy wheels, heated power-adjustable front seats, Charcoal leather upholstery, cruise control, and automatic climate control. This 9-3 Viggen has 117k miles and is now offered at no reserve with owner’s manuals, Viggen literature, service records, a wind deflector, a Carfax report, and a clean New York title in the seller’s name.
The 9-3 Viggen features a revised rear hatch spoiler, aerodynamic bumper covers, and rocker panel extensions when compared to the standard 9-3. This example is finished in Laser Red (278), and exterior equipment includes a power-retractable black convertible top, power-adjustable side mirrors, headlight wipers, and fog lights. The Carfax report lists an accident reported with another motor vehicle in a May 2011 entry, and the seller states that a dent in the right quarter panel was repaired before the area was repainted. The headlights and fog lights have been fitted with 3M protection film, according to the seller. Wear is noted in the convertible top fabric over one of the windows, and scrapes are present on the lower area of the front bumper cover.
The 17″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 215/45 Pirelli P Zero Nero tires that were reportedly installed within the last 2k miles. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with slotted rotors. A steering-rack brace and a rear anti-sway bar have been installed.
The heated power-adjustable front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in Charcoal leather and debossed Viggen backrest logos. Amenities include driver-seat position memory, a CD stereo, a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer, cruise control, automatic climate control, a hands-free phone mount, Viggen-branded door sill plates, and a Saab Information Display with Night Panel function. The seller notes that the CD changer cartridge can be difficult to remove.
Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for coolant temperature, turbo boost pressure, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 117k miles, nearly all of which were added under current ownership.
The turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four was removed and fitted with a replacement block and #1 piston following block damage in 2014, and it has been modified with Superchips Ltd engine management software for increased horsepower and increased torque. The seller states that the top-speed limiter has been disabled. The temperature sensor and thermostat were replaced in 2018, the oil was changed within the last 5k miles, and the radiator hoses were replaced within the last year.
Power is routed to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch was replaced approximately 500 miles ago, according to the seller.
Manufacturer’s literature, two keys, a 9-3 Audio Tour CD ROM, a marketing reprint of a Viggen Road & Track article, a copy of The Viggen Flight Academy, vanity plates, a wind deflector, and service records are included in the sale.
The Carfax report lists the aforementioned accident along with registration history in Florida and New York.
