This 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite was acquired by the seller in California in 1981 as a project, and it was subsequently refurbished in metallic blue. Additional work included a front disc brake conversion, and the seller notes that an updated brake master cylinder, clutch hydraulics, and steering components were installed. Powered by a 948cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the car is equipped with a black soft top, 13″ steel wheels, a split tonneau cover, removable side curtains, an AM/FM radio, and bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl. This Bugeye Sprite is now offered with parts invoices from current ownership, a binder with a workshop manual, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The seller states that Porsche-specification metallic blue was selected when the car was repainted, and exterior details include a removable black soft top, a chrome grille, a split tonneau cover, and removable side curtains. The front bumper, hood latch, and side mirrors are missing. A ding is noted to the right of the license plate light, the soft top windows are discolored, and there are bubbles on the rear portion of the body behind the soft top.
The 13″ steel wheels feature chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 155/80 Thunder R202 tires. The car was fitted with a front disc brake conversion, and an updated brake master cylinder and replacement calipers, pads, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and steering components were installed in 2012, according to the seller.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl and are complemented by color-matching door panels and carpets. A Mitsubishi AM/FM radio has been added along with Jensen door speakers, and additional appointments include exposed aluminum cockpit trim, a passenger-side grab handle, and door pockets. The heater does not work.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a black dashboard with a combination gauge for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The 100-mph speedometer, tachometer, fuel level gauge, and horn are inoperative. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, and the seller reports that approximately 1k miles have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 948cc inline-four features dual SU carburetors and a blue-finished valve cover. The mounting point for the engine identification tag has been marked with “auto-sport” and a driving video is viewable in the gallery below. The choke cable is not currently connected.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports transmission noise in reverse along with a rattle from the underside, and oil leaks are noted from the engine and transmission.
