This 1962 Ford Thunderbird is one of approximately 9,844 convertibles made for the model year. Finished in Acapulco Blue Metallic over Medium Blue Metallic crinkle vinyl, the car is powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-retractable white soft top, a fiberglass tonneau cover, 14″ steel wheels, dual exhaust outlets, power windows, a swing-away steering wheel, a digital AM/FM radio, a MagicAire heater/defroster, and power steering. This Thunderbird was acquired by the seller in 2023 and is now offered at no reserve with Alabama registration in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Acapulco Blue Metallic (E) and was repainted some time ago. Features include a removable fiberglass body-color tonneau cover, a power-retractable white soft top, chrome-finished bumpers, quad headlights, reverse lights, a windshield washer, a left-side mirror, fender skirts, and a dual exhaust system with outlets below the rear bumper. Rust bubbling is present on the rear quarter panels and one of the doors. There are tears in the soft top, and the seller notes the power operation is slow.
The 14″ steel wheels wear spinner-style covers and are mounted with Mastercraft tires measuring 215/75. The car came equipped from the factory with power steering, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted drum brakes at each corner.
The manually adjustable front seats and rear bench are upholstered in Medium Blue Metallic crinkle vinyl, and stainless steel trim accents the console, instrument panel, door panels, and rear quarter trim panels. Amenities include power windows, lap belts, a digital AM/FM radio, a MagicAire heater/defroster, and a center console. Seam separation on the driver’s seat is shown in the gallery and the windows need to be adjusted per the seller.
The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a swing-away column and frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a single combination gauge for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles, less than 100 of which were added under current ownership. There are cracks on the steering wheel.
The 390ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and features a gold-painted air cleaner assembly and Thunderbird-branded valve covers. Factory-rated output was 300 horsepower. The carburetor was rebuilt and the starter was replaced under current ownership. There is rust in the battery box.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.
