This 1949 Cadillac Series 62 underwent refurbishment in 2015 and is one of 8,000 convertible examples produced for the model year. It is powered by a 331ci V8 paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and is finished in black over red leather upholstery. Equipment includes a black soft top, a top boot, chrome wheel covers, Firestone bias-ply whitewall tires, power windows, and a heater. The car was acquired on BaT in May 2023 by the seller, who replaced the battery and converted the ignition system to electronic. This Series 62 convertible is now offered with service manuals, a wiring diagram, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The body was finished from the factory in black (1) and was repainted under previous ownership in 2015. It has been fitted with a replacement black convertible top with red piping and a plastic rear window, and additional exterior details include chrome front and rear gravel guards with matching rocker-panel trim and body-side spears as well as a “Flying Goddess” hood ornament, a split windshield, a black soft-top boot, rear fender skirts, tail fins, and a fuel filler concealed under the left taillight assembly. There is a scratch on the right rear fender.
The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome Cadillac-branded full covers and are mounted with 8.20-15″ Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall bias-ply tires. Braking is provided by drums at all four corners. Wheel bearings and seals were reportedly replaced in 2022.
The cabin houses front and rear bench seats that have been retrimmed in red leather and are joined by color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Cream-colored trim accent lines the dashboard and door panels, and additional interior elements include power windows, a heater, and a locking glovebox. The push-button AM radio and analog clock are inoperative.
The ivory-colored steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, battery status, and oil pressure. Interior lighting has been converted to utilize 12-volt LED bulbs. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, a handful of which were added under current ownership. The odometer is not believed to be accurate, therefore true mileage is unknown.
The overhead-valve 331ci V8 was introduced for the 1949 model year and features blue-finished valve covers with embossed Cadillac script finished in white. The engine was reportedly removed and refurbished in 2015 with work that included disassembling the engine; hot-tanking, cleaning, and machining the block; polishing the crankshaft; replacing the pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, gaskets, belts, hoses, and spark plugs; rebuilding the water pump and the carburetors; and installing hardened valve seats. The car was converted from a 6-volt to a 12-volt electrical system—with the exception of the starting and hydraulic systems—and 12-volt LED bulbs have been installed. The seller states the battery was replaced in September 2023 and the ignition system was converted to electronic in July 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission, which was reportedly rebuilt in 2015.
The car is titled by the number sequence stamped on the engine block, as seen above. Photos of the vehicle’s cowl data plate are viewable in the previous auction gallery.
The vehicle’s Wisconsin title lists “Exempt” in the Odometer Status box.
