This 1948 Lincoln Continental is one of 452 cabriolets built for the model year and was produced on February 14, 1948. It was shipped internationally the following month, leaving the factory equipped with a 200-km/h speedometer. Refurbished in the 1990s, the car was acquired by the seller in 2014 and previously listed on BaT in October 2018. Subsequent work involved overhauling the fuel pump, changing fluids and filters, and replacing the vent windows, ignition components, and weatherstripping. The revised color scheme features a burgundy finish over black leather upholstery, and the car is fitted with a tan soft top, 15″ wheels, hydraulic drum brakes, a hood ornament, a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, push-button door handles, rear fender skirts, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Power is provided by a 292ci V12 paired with a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This Continental is now offered in North Carolina with a copy of the production order and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Opal Blue Green and was refinished in its current shade of burgundy in the 1990s. The power-operated tan soft top has tears, and snaps for the replacement top boot have not been installed. Details include a hood ornament, push-button door handles, rear fender skirts, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a rear-mounted spare tire carrier. Weatherstripping was replaced in 2022, and the seller notes that the convertible top pump was replaced under current ownership. One of the trunk hinges is not connected, and a part of the trunk lid support is uninstalled.
The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps with Lincoln script and are mounted with whitewall tires. The Continental rode on a 125″ wheelbase, and suspension comprises transverse leaf springs front and rear. Stopping power is provided by hydraulically assisted four-wheel drums.
The cabin was refreshed in the 1990s and houses a split front and solid rear bench seat trimmed in black leather. The vent windows were replaced in 2023. Appointments include a painted body-color dashboard, hydraulically operated power windows, and silver metal trim. The refurbished AM radio is not connected, and the analog clock does not work.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 200-km/h speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 53k kilometers (~33k miles), approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 292ci flathead V12 was the last offered by an American manufacturer and was factory rated at 125 horsepower. The seller notes that fluids and filters were changed in 2023, at which time the fuel pump was rebuilt, and ignition components were replaced in 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with an overdrive function.
A copy of the production card shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was assembled on February 14, 1948, and designated for international shipping.
