27-Years-Family-Owned 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL 4-Speed

This 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL was purchased by the seller’s father in 1997 and was stored for the last four years before being titled to the seller in 2024. The car is finished in Medium Red over gray leather and is powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, a cassette stereo, a MOMO steering wheel, and a heater. Work in preparation for the sale consisted of replacing the battery, tires, and fuel filter. This W113 SL is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example is finished in Medium Red and features a black soft top, a removable hardtop, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights. The seller notes touch up paint on the decklid and chips behind the left rear wheel, and other blemishes are shown up close in the gallery.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and were mounted with Kinergy tires measuring 195/75 in May 2024. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in gray leather that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include an Alpine cassette stereo, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and a heater. The radio faceplate is installed upside down, and the seller notes wear on the leather upholstery.

The wood-trimmed MOMO steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 74k miles.

The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection. The battery and fuel filter were replaced and an oil change performed in May 2024. The seller notes that the car idles high and the distributor may need replacement or a rebuild.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Leaks are noted from the engine and differential.
