This 1946 MG TC is a right-hand-drive example that was acquired by the seller’s father in 1973, and it was refurbished before it was brought to the US from South Africa in the late 1970s. The car was acquired by the seller ten years ago, and it was offered on BaT in December 2022. Subsequent work has included a tune-up and ignition-system work for the 1,250cc XPAG inline-four as well as replacing the tires. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, 19″ wire wheels, a black soft top, side curtains, a tonneau cover, a Ford Anglia-sourced steering box, an electric fuel pump, a high-capacity oil sump, a 12-volt electrical system, and a revised windscreen. This TC is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in its current shade of black in the 1970s, and exterior features include a black soft top, side curtain windows, a tonneau cover, louvered engine covers, rear-hinged doors, an aero windscreen, and a rear luggage rack. There is a blemish on the body in front of the passenger-side door.

Painted 19” wire wheels wear chrome two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with Coker Excelsior Comp H tires that were installed recently. The car has been modified with a Ford Anglia-sourced steering box. Brake service three years ago included replacing the master cylinder and brake shoes, and the wheel cylinders were replaced at that time.

The right-hand-drive cockpit houses a split bench trimmed in red leather upholstery joined by matching door panels and a wood-trimmed dashboard. Equipment includes a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a passenger-side grab handle. There is a burn mark in the carpet.

The banjo-style steering wheel is situated at the right side of the cabin and fronts white-dial Jaeger instrumentation consisting, and coolant-temperature gauge has been added beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, reportedly the distance covered since the car was refurbished in the 1970s. Total mileage is unknown.

The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four features a high-capacity oil sump, an electric fuel pump, a modified exhaust system, and a 12-volt positive ground electrical system. Recent work has included replacing the coolant and hoses, adjusting the twin SU carburetors, a valve adjustment, and replacing the ignition points, spark plugs, and ignition wires.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The car is said to have been driven by the seller’s father in the 1980s to chauffeur Formula One drivers around the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, South Africa. It is also said to have been campaigned in various historical events and at Pikes Peak.
