This 1970 Mercury Marquis convertible is one of a reported 1,233 examples produced for the model year and is powered by a 429ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission that was overhauled in 2020. White paint is complemented by a black convertible soft top and black vinyl upholstery, and the car is further equipped with 17″ chrome-clad alloy wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, power windows, and an aftermarket CD stereo with a trunk-mounted subwoofer box. This Marquis convertible is now offered with an owner’s manual, recent service records, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in white under a previous ownership and is equipped with hidden headlights and chrome bumpers. The black convertible soft top has a tear near the rear roof bow along with a patched hole, and there is a rust bubble on the front left door. Additional blemishes and touched-up areas are shown in the gallery below.

Chrome-clad aftermarket 17″ wheels are mounted with 245/45 Nexen tires. The front disc brake components reportedly were replaced under current ownership.

The front and rear benches are upholstered in black vinyl, and the bottom of the front bench was replaced along with the carpet and the heater core. An aftermarket stereo system was installed under previous ownership consisting of a Kenwood CD head unit, Kicker door speakers, and a trunk-mounted subwoofer box with amplifiers. The factory air conditioning equipment has been removed.

The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. The rim-blow horn does not work and a button on the steering column has been fitted to activate the horn. A replacement ignition lock cylinder was fitted in 2023.

The car is powered by a 429ci V8 that is said to have been rebuilt under previous ownership. Work since 2019 has included replacing the starter, starter solenoid, battery cables, radiator, alternator, fuel sending unit, and ignition components along with rebuilding the Holley four-barrel carburetor with new metering blocks. The engine runs rough when cold.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a C6 three-speed automatic transmission that was overhauled in 2020, at which time the transmission mount and the flexplate were replaced. A fluid leak onto the exhaust system causes smoke, according to the seller.

The Washington title is branded “Classic.”
