This 1966 Lincoln Continental convertible was acquired by the seller’s father in 1994 and passed on to the seller in 1998, and it has been registered with the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club (LCOC) for over 20 years. The car was refurbished over the course of 20 years with a repaint, interior repairs, and a rebuild of its 462ci V8 and dual-range three-speed automatic transmission. It was the recipient of the best-in-show L. Dale Shaffer Trophy at the 2016 Mid-America Lincoln & Continental Owner’s Club national meet. The car also has a power-operated black convertible top, power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, polished wheel covers, a power-adjustable front bench, a tilt steering wheel, power windows, an AM radio and 8-track player, and air conditioning with automatic temperature control. This Continental convertible is now offered with the owner’s manual, records, spare components, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory in Platinum (N) and was repainted in 2015, and chrome on the side mirror and door handles was re-plated. Details include a power-operated black convertible top, auto-dimming headlights, rear-hinged rear doors, a driver-side mirror, and a retractable antenna.
The 15″ steel wheels feature polished covers and are mounted with 235/75 Hankook tires. Power steering was standard, and braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The seller states the power-adjustable front bench seat was re-foamed, the carpeting was replaced, and the 8-track and clock were repaired during their ownership. The cruise control is noted to function intermittently, and the car has power windows, power locks, and air conditioning with automatic temperature control.
The two-spoke tilting steering wheel fronts a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows under 41k miles, though the seller does not believe it is accurate, and total mileage is unknown. Approximately 20k miles were added under current ownership.
The 462ci V8 has been rebuilt according to the seller, and an Edelbrock carburetor has been installed. The removed original carburetor is included in the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a dual-range three-speed automatic transmission, which the seller states was also rebuilt.
The car has been awarded the best-in-show L. Dale Shaffer Trophy at the 2016 Mid-America Lincoln & Continental Owner’s Club national meet along with other regional first-place awards. Records and components included in the sale are displayed in the gallery.
