This 1968 Triumph TR250 underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment under previous ownership before being purchased by the seller on BaT in August 2022. Subsequent work has included re-trimming the interior in tan, rebuilding the Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, installing an electric cooling fan and shroud, and replacing the coolant hoses, spark plugs, fuel pump, and ignition components. It is powered by a rebuilt 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and equipment includes a black convertible top, an aftermarket camshaft, Pertronix electronic ignition, 15″ Dayton wire wheels, front disc brakes, a Nardi steering wheel, seatbelts, and a heater. This TR250 is now offered with the owner’s manuals, reference literature, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The TR250 was a carbureted version of the fuel-injected UK-market TR5, and it was only sold for the 1968 model year before the introduction of the TR6 in 1969. This example was refinished in white under previous ownership and features a reflective silver nose stripe, a black convertible top, a tan convertible top boot, abbreviated chrome side spears, door-mounted side mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and TR250 badging. Various blemishes including a dent above the left-front tire and assorted paint chips are noted.
Chrome-finished 15″ Dayton wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-off hubs and wear 205/65 Dunlop SP Sport A2 tires. A full-size spare is located in the trunk. An independent suspension was equipped from the factory, and a front sway bar sourced from a TR6 has been fitted. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in tan leather and are accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets as well as a black dashboard accented with wood trim. Interior appointments include a wooden shift knob with an inset analog clock, lockable glovebox storage, three-point seatbelts, and a heater. A power wire for a radar detector has been fitted in the upper dashboard. Water seepage is noted from the left side of the windshield when driven in inclement conditions.
The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer while auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer previously stopped at 68097 miles, and approximately 2k miles were added under current ownership. The horn is not operative, and true mileage is unknown.
The 2.5-liter inline-six was rebuilt under previous ownership and features a milled cylinder head, an S-2 camshaft, dual Zenith-Stromberg side-draft carburetors, and a Pertronix electronic ignition system. Service under current ownership has included rebuilding the carburetors, installing an electric cooling fan and shroud, performing fluids services, and replacing the coolant hoses, spark plugs, fuel pump, and ignition components. The seller notes that intermittently the engine will temporarily continue running after turning off the ignition.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Laycock Type A overdrive unit. The previous refurbishment reportedly included the installation of frame reinforcements and an application of rust inhibitor.
Manufacturer’s literature, reference manuals, service records, spare parts, awards, and memorabilia will accompany the car.
