This 1965 Amphicar Model 770 was acquired by the seller’s father circa 1984 and was subsequently refurbished. The car is finished in red with a white soft top and features marine navigation lights as well as 13″ steel wheels. Inside, the bench seats are trimmed in black and white vinyl and accompanied by an aftermarket cassette stereo along with Moto Meter instrumentation. Power is supplied by a 1,147cc Triumph inline-four mated to a two-part manual gearbox delivering four forward speeds and reverse on land along with forward and reverse to the twin propellers. This Amphicar is now offered in Texas with manufacturer’s literature and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.

The car was repainted in red as part of the aforementioned 1980s refurbishment. Exterior details include a white soft top, marine navigation lights, a vented engine cover, and a single exhaust outlet exiting through the tail panel. The seller notes various blemishes and imperfections in the paint and bodywork including bubbling paint near the bottom of the driver-side door and chrome pitting in the rear bumper.

White-finished 13” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with whitewall tires. The front wheels serve as rudders when the car is afloat, and stopping power on land is provided by hydraulic four-wheel drum brakes. The tires were installed at the time of the 1980s refurbishment, and cracks are visible in the sidewalls.

The cabin features a split front bench, a rear bench, and door panels trimmed in white and black vinyl. An aftermarket cassette stereo has been added, and further amenities include a lockable glovebox, floor-mounted shifters, and door sealing latches.

A two-spoke steering wheel frames Moto Meter instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer flanked by a clock and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 4,100 miles, approximately 1,500 of which have been added under current ownership. The seller reports that the fuel gauge does not work.

The rear-mounted 1,147cc inline-four was factory rated at 43 horsepower and 61 lb-ft of torque. The carburetor was cleaned and adjusted in May 2024.

Power is sent to the rear wheels, the dual nylon propellers, or both through a two-part Hermes transmission with a four-speed manual gearbox driving the wheels and an integrated two-speed gearbox with forward and reverse gears for the propellers.

Manufacturer’s literature will accompany the car.
