This 1959 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider was built on December 19, 1958, and delivered new to the US through the Hoffman Motor Company of New York. One of a claimed 3,443 examples, chassis 00072 underwent a multi-year rotisserie refurbishment that was completed in 2010 and was subsequently displayed at the 2021 Concorso Italiano in Seaside, California, where it won Sports Car Market’s Best Tipo 102 award. The car is finished in white with a black Stayfast soft top and an aftermarket black hardtop, while the cabin has been re-trimmed in tan leather and retrofitted with a vintage-style radio and an aftermarket stereo. Power comes from a replacement 2.3L twin-cam inline-four fitted with a custom-fabricated intake manifold, twin Weber 45DCOE carburetors, and modified camshafts. Shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission, and further equipment includes finned drum brakes, Koni shocks, and 400mm steel wheels. The car was sold on BaT in August 2021 and was listed again on the site in March 2022 before being acquired by the current owner later that year. This 2000 Spider is now offered on dealer consignment with a spare 2.0L twin-cam inline-four along with tools and spare parts along with a clean Pennsylvania title.

The 2000 Spider featured bodywork by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, Italy, and the US-market version can be differentiated by closely-paired hood scoops divided by a single trim piece as well as a single chrome strip along each rocker panel. This example was delivered from the factory in Grigio Biacca (AR 702), and it was stripped, mounted to a rotisserie, underwent rust repair, and fitted with several replacement body panels before it was repainted in its current white finish as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. The car features a black Stayfast soft top shown in the image gallery below and is accompanied by a tan top boot, a black tonneau cover, and an aftermarket black hardtop. A dent on the rear bumper can be seen up close in the gallery.

The 400mm steel wheels feature chrome Alfa Romeo–branded hubcaps and are mounted with Pirelli Cinturato CA67 tires. Koni shocks were added and the hydraulically operated finned drum brakes were overhauled as part of the refurbishment. The steering box as well as the brake master cylinder and shoes were adjusted by Alfaman of Novato, California, in 2021.

The cabin features bucket seats have been re-trimmed in tan Scottish leather, and matching upholstery extends to the shift boot, parcel shelf, and door panels. Anthracite wool carpets line the floors and are protected by rubber Alfa Romeo–branded floor mats. A retro-style AM/FM push-button radio with Bluetooth connectivity is connected to speakers in the kick panels as well as a subwoofer installed below the dash.

A split-spoke steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline accompanied by a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.3L twin-cam inline-four was reportedly built by Fábrica Nacional de Motores in Brazil and features a Conrero-style intake manifold, twin Weber 45DCOE carburetors, and modified camshafts. The engine wears finned valve covers with Alfa Romeo branding, and a Bosch alternator has been installed in place of the factory Marelli generator.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission that was reportedly overhauled by Alfa Parts Exchange of Tracy, California, under previous ownership. The car is further equipped with a stainless-steel exhaust system.

The spare 2.0L twin-cam inline-four is said to have been rebuilt under previous ownership with a .010″/.010″ crankshaft, 85mm forged JE pistons, twin Solex carburetors, and a Marelli generator and starter as well as replacement bearings, valves, and springs. It retains a flywheel and is fitted with a replacement clutch disc and pressure plate.

The Pennsylvania title carries a “Classic Vehicle” brand.
