This 1965 Ford Mustang convertible is finished in red over Parchment vinyl and is powered by a C-code 289ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes the Pony package, a white convertible soft top, 14″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, chrome bumpers, front bucket seats, an AM radio, and a cabin heater. This Mustang was purchased by the seller in 2014 and is now offered with a factory service manual, partial service records, spare parts, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The car was delivered from the factory in Champagne Beige and has been refinished in red. Exterior equipment includes a white convertible soft top, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers.

The 14″ steel wheels wear faux knock-off covers and are mounted with 185/75 Ironman RB-12 NWS tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The front upper control arms were replaced in March 2014, and the front and rear brakes were overhauled at this time.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in Parchment vinyl with Palomino trim. The Pony package included ponies embossed on the seat backs as well as unique door panels and woodgrain trim on the dashboard and steering wheel. Amenities include an AM radio, lap belts, and a cabin heater.

Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. A 6k-rpm tachometer and analog clock are mounted aft the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 289ci V8 is equipped with an Edelbrock intake manifold and a four-barrel carburetor. The engine was rebuilt in 2015, with work including replacement of the rods and pistons as well as installing ARP main, head, and rod bolts. Receipts for the work are viewable in the gallery, and removed factory engine components including the intake and exhaust manifolds will accompany the car.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a C4 three-speed automatic transmission and a rear axle with 2.80:1 gears.

The warranty number is consistent with a 1965 Mustang convertible that was built in Dearborn, Michigan, and equipped with a 289ci V8. Decoding the trim tag reveals the following information:

  • Body 76B – Convertible with luxury interior
  • Color I – Champagne Beige paint
  • Trim F9 – Parchment vinyl with Palomino trim
  • Date – 07S – May 7th
  • DSO 36 – Louisville district sales office
  • Axle 6 – 2.80:1 conventional rear axle ratio
