This 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was optioned with a removable hardtop that has a panoramic glass roof. Finished in Magma Red (586) over black Nappa leather, it also has a power-operated black soft top, and its top hydraulic cylinders were replaced before the car was sold on BaT in October 2021. The car was sold again on BaT in December 2022 and was acquired by its current owner on BaT in June 2023. Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, and additional equipment includes 18″ AMG wheels, heated and power-adjustable seats, and a Bose sound system. This R129 is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment in New Jersey with owner’s manuals, three keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title.
In addition to xenon headlights, AMG Styling Package bumpers and side skirts were standard equipment on the SL500 for 2002, which was the final model year for the R129 platform. Paint-meter readings indicate the hood on this example has been refinished.
The 18″ five-spoke AMG wheels are mounted with 245/40 front and 275/35 rear Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. The four-wheel disc brakes were equipped at the factory with Brembo calipers over 334mm ventilated rotors up front.
The heated and power-adjustable seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather, and burl wood trim accents the cabin, which has a deployable roll bar, automatic climate control, a Bose sound system, and a cassette stereo linked with a trunk-mounted CD changer. The multi-contour function of the seats does not work.
The digital odometer indicates 37k miles, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership.
Factory rated at 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, the 5.0-liter M113 V8 sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2021.
