This 1968 Corvette Convertible was used as a race car in SCCA and SVRA events by the second owner for approximately 50 years. It was purchased by the current owner in 2023 and a subsequent refresh included overhauling the cockpit, installing L88 fender flares and repainting the bodywork, and rebuilding the engine, clutch assembly, braking system, and ignition system. This Corvette race car is now offered at no reserve in New York with log books, spare parts, two sets of spare wheels, historical photos, and a bill of sale.
Body modifications during current ownership have included stripping and repainting the car in red urethane, replacing the taillight lenses, bulbs, and wiring, and installing L88 fender flares, a rear tow strap, and four hood pins.
15×10″ American Racing wheels are mounted with Hoosier slicks. The car is equipped with power steering and Guldstrand-modified front suspension, which incorporates front and rear mono springs. Service during current ownership has reportedly included installing Duntov Racing–built J-56 brake calipers with titanium pistons, Duntov Racing brake pads and rotors, 1969-style front spindles, larger front wheel bearings, Duntov Motorsports front wheel hubs, and ARP front wheel studs. The factory front suspension components, rear leaf springs, and two sets of spare wheels are included in the sale.
A cockpit refresh during current ownership included replacing the dashboard wiring and installing mil-spec switches and breakers, an anti-glare aluminum dashboard, a Kirkey racing seat, a tall Hurst shifter, a fire suppression system, and a Jones start button and cutoff switch. The racing harness certification is expired.
Instrumentation includes an Auto Meter Sport Comp Tachometer, a voltmeter, and gauges for oil pressure and fuel pressure. The tachometer features a programmable shift light. A water temperature gauge and redundant low oil pressure warning lights were installed during current ownership.
The seller reports that the engine was rebuilt following their purchase of the car. Work included installing Dart Iron Eagle cylinder heads, a port-matched Edelbrock intake manifold, an HEI ignition, and MSD plug wires, rebuilding the Holley 750cfm double-pumper carburetor, and replacing the piston rings, bearings, roller rockers, water pump, thermostat, timing chain, and ignition wear components.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an AutoGear Muncie M22 four-speed manual transmission and a 3.55 limited-slip rear end. Service during current ownership has reportedly included rebuilding the McLeod racing clutch, installing a hydraulic throwout bearing and a roller pilot bushing, inspecting the transmission, and adjusting the shift gates.
