1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in red over beige upholstery, and it is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a matching hardtop, a black soft top, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Becker Europa AM/FM radio, The car was brought to Canada from the US approximately 10 years ago, and reportedly underwent a multi-year refurbishment that concluded in 2022. This W113SL was acquired by the seller in 2023 and is now offered with the owner’s manual, records, a hardtop stand, a car cover, and Nova Scotia registration.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example came finished from the factory in Dark Red (542) and was repainted its current shade of red during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include a black soft top, split chrome bumpers with overriders, twin exhaust outlets, and US-specification headlights. There are holes in the soft top, though a replacement is included in the sale. Photos of the included red hardtop and replacement Robbins soft top are shown at the end of the gallery.

The 14″ steel wheels are mounted with 185/75 Hankook Optimo H724 tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs.

The bucket seats are trimmed in beige upholstery, and color-coordinated upholstery extends to the door panels and upper and lower dash pads. Interior appointments include an analog clock, hand-crank windows, seatbelts, Coco floor mats, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and a Becker Europa AM/FM radio.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.8-liter inline-six is said to be a replacement item, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Fluid changes were performed and replacement filters installed under current ownership.

The vehicle is being sold on its Nova Scotia registration, which serves as the ownership document in Nova Scotia, Canada. The sale does not include a title.
