This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was refurbished in the late 1980s, and it remained with its previous owner for 27 years until it was acquired by the seller on BaT in August 2023. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and is finished in burgundy with a tan soft top over a tan interior. It has 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a tan top boot, driving lights, Hella horns, wood veneer interior trim, a heater, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and dual SU carburetors. This BJ8 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a tonneau cover, a driver’s handbook, a workshop manual, and a Washington State title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Colorado Red with a black soft top, and it was repainted burgundy in 1988 and fitted with a tan soft top and top boot cover. Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders as well as dual fender-mounted mirrors, bright trim, driving lights, headlight stone guards, Hella horns, and twin Ansa Marmitte exhaust tips. The right-front fender was repaired in 2008. The soft top is worn through at the folding points, rust is visible in the left-rear wheel well, and other dings and imperfections can be seen in the gallery below.

Chrome-plated 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs are mounted with 195/65 Michelin Harmony tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.

The 2+2 cockpit features front bucket seats and rear seat pads that were reupholstered in tan leather and vinyl under previous ownership. Wood veneer trim accents the dashboard, and additional appointments include a heater, a locking glove compartment, front and rear lap belts, and manual crank windows. There are cracks in the finish on the glove box door.

The three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplemental gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 250 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 148 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. In 2022, the ignition timing was adjusted, and the radiator and fuel pump were replaced in 2018. The fuel tank was replaced in 2010.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive. Rust and damage are visible on the rear muffler.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists colors, options, and identification numbers as well as a dispatch date of 12 September 1966. A driver’s handbook, a workshop manual, a tonneau cover, and two keys are included in the sale.

The current Washington title carries a Classic brand.
