This Porsche 356 replica was assembled by Vintage Speedsters of Hawaiian Gardens, California, under previous ownership and acquired by the seller on BaT in May 2022. Subsequent work included replacing the interior with red vinyl seats and trim, painting the body in Ivory, converting the disc brakes to utilize a wide-five bolt pattern, installing a set of 15″ Mobelwagen Interceptor wheels, and replacing the engine bay seal, carburetor linkage, and steering box. The car is built on a shortened Volkswagen chassis and is powered by an air-cooled 1,835cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional details include a tan soft top and side curtains and a black boot and tonneau cover as well as a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, Simpson latch-and-link lap belts, dual Weber carburetors, and a Porsche-style cooling fan kit. This Speedster replica shows 8k miles and is now offered with a clean Arizona title listing it as a 1974 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
The fiberglass body is said to have been disassembled and refinished in Ivory using a two-stage basecoat/clear coat paint under current ownership. Exterior details include a tan soft top and side curtains and a black boot and tonneau cover as well as gold-finished Porsche 1600 Super badging, teardrop taillights, Pegasus fender decals, a reproduction Reutter badge on the right fender, and body-color bumpers with impact strips.
The Mobelwagen Interceptor wheels were fitted under current ownership and are mounted with an older set of 205/70 Firestone FR710 tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with spun aluminum drum covers. Work under current ownership included converting the front bolt pattern to wide-five and replacing the steering box and steering column bushings.
The replacement fixed-back bucket seats are trimmed in red vinyl upholstery, which extends to the replacement dashboard pad, door panels, rear parcel shelf, and shifter and parking brake boots. Grey square-weave carpets are protected by Coco mats, and additional interior details include a wooden shift knob, polished door pulls, Simpson latch-and-link lap belts, a cabin heater, and an adjustable height rearview mirror. The speakers for the Bluetooth-capable Pioneer stereo mounted beneath the dashboard have been removed, though the seller notes the wiring for them remains.
The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel wears a Porsche-crest horn button and frames a central tachometer flanked by a 130-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for fuel level and oil temperature. The seller notes the five-digit mechanical odometer now shows just under 8k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added under current ownership.
Dual Weber carburetors feed the air-cooled 1,835cc flat-four, which features a Porsche-style cooling fan kit, a Bosch blue ignition coil, a Jamar crankcase oil breather, a remote oil filter, and a Euro two-tip exhaust with heater boxes. The engine compartment seal was replaced, a ball and socket carburetor linkage was fabricated, and a thermo-controlled oil cooler fan was fitted.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside images are provided in the gallery.
