This 1964 Porsche 356C cabriolet is a Reutter-bodied example that was imported into the US by Hoffman Motors Corporation in 1964 before being acquired by the seller in 1983. It later underwent a refurbishment in 2000 that is noted to have involved a repaint in Signal Red, an interior re-trim in black leather, and installation of a replacement black convertible top. Power is supplied by a 1.6-liter flat-four, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transaxle. Further equipment includes chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels, disc brakes, body-color bumpers, and twin engine grilles as well as front bucket seats, a Blaupunkt AM radio, a cabin heater, and an analog clock. This 356C cabriolet is now offered in Phoenix, Arizona, with a copy of the Kardex and an Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The Reutter-built body left the factory finished in Rubinrot (6402) with a windshield washer system, an underside front tow ring, twin engine grilles, and body-color bumpers with bright guards. The car was repainted in Signal Red and fitted with a replacement black convertible top sourced from Stoddard as part of the aforementioned 2000 refurbishment and was repainted again in 2020. The seller notes evidence of repairs on the right-rear corner of the body.
The chrome-finished 15″ ventilated steel wheels feature Porsche-crest hubcaps and wear 165-series Vredestein tires. The car was factory equipped with disc brakes at each corner, and the rear brake calipers were reportedly rebuilt in 2021.
The front bucket seats and rear jump seats were reupholstered in black leather in 2000. The floors are lined with gray square-weave carpets, and further interior appointments include a Blaupunkt AM radio, a cabin heater, an analog clock, and lap belts. The seller notes occasionally having to bump the key a few times to engage the starter.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a central tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline flanked by a 120-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. The Arizona title bears a notation indicating that mileage “is in excess of 99,999 miles,” and true mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter 616/15 flat-four was factory rated at 88 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque. A Stoddard electric fuel pump has been added. The seller notes the presence of seeping oil.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes there are dents on the underside of the floor pan.
A copy of the Kardex report lists factory colors, equipment, and identification numbers as well as delivery through Hoffman Porsche in New York.
