This Porsche 356 Speedster replica was retrofitted in 2016 with an air-cooled 2,110cc flat-four. Finished in white over red vinyl upholstery, it has a four-speed manual transaxle, a black soft top, a Leitz luggage rack, headlight guards, front disc brakes, 15″ wheels, CB Performance engine components, Magnaspark digital ignition, and dual Weber carburetors. The car was acquired by its current owner on BaT in October 2022, and it shows 49k miles. This 356 replica is offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a tonneau cover, service records from current ownership, and a clean California title listing the car as a 1969 Volkswagen.
The fiberglass body is finished in white with a black convertible soft top, and it has gold Porsche 1600 Super and Speedster badging, an engine lid with a single grille, a Leitz luggage rack, dual mirrors, headlight and bumper guards, twin exhaust outlets, and 356-style brake lights with chrome rings. Cracks in the nose are shown in the gallery below.
Steel 15″ wide-five wheels wear aluminum hubcaps and 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A rear camber compensator has been fitted, and braking is handled by unassisted front discs and rear drums. The hand brake was adjusted in November 2023.
The fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in red marine vinyl, and the cabin has a color-coordinated dashboard cover and door panels. Equipment includes lap belts, oatmeal-colored square weave carpet, and a passenger chrome grab handle as well as a Porsche 356-style turn signal stalk, ignition, umbrella handle parking brake, light switch, wiper switch, and dash knobs. Sound deadening was reportedly installed in both doors during previous ownership, and fuel pump and anti-theft switches have been fitted.
A 400mm steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 49k miles, approximately 500 of which were added during current ownership.
Built in 2016 by Pat Downs Performance of Dinuba, California, with components that are itemized in the car’s previous BaT auction, the rear-mounted air-cooled 2,110cc flat-four sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle with a 3.88:1 final drive ratio. The transmission was built by Metalcraft Motorsports of Sanger, California, with a Kennedy pressure plate and tall 3rd and 4th gears. Fuel lines were replaced in April 2024 by The Stable of San Luis Obispo, California, which also serviced the carburetors and replaced the spark plugs in November 2023, at which time cylinder compression measurements were taken that are listed on a service record shown in the gallery below.
