This 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of approximately 2,500 Special Edition examples produced for the model year, and it spent time in California and Washington before it was acquired by the seller on BaT in November 2023. Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, the car is finished in Titanium Gray Metallic and features a black Robbins soft top with a heated glass rear window. Modifications consist of 15″ 949 Racing 6UL wheels, Supermiata Xida XL adjustable coilovers, Marrad bucket seats trimmed in black and brown leather, a fire extinguisher mounted to a yellow Blackbird Fabworx GT3 roll bar, Delrin door and shifter bushings, Flyin’ Miata frame rail reinforcements, and Paco Motorsports Strong Arms as well as a black Robbins soft top with a heated glass rear window. This special-edition NB Miata has 124k miles and is now offered at no reserve with spare and removed parts, service records, manufacturer’s literature, a Miata Special Edition-branded duffel bag, a Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is one of 1,491 finished in Titanium Gray Metallic and was fitted with a black Robbins soft top with a heated glass rear window in 2019. Paco Motorsports Strong Arms were installed beneath the front fenders in April 2023, and exterior details include a brown top boot cover, fog lights, Miata Special Edition fender badging, body-color taillight bezels, and a chrome-finished fuel filler door. The Carfax report lists accident damage to the left side in March 2009 along with a damage report in March 2016. The driver-side door is reportedly tight following the installation of the Flyin’ Miata frame-rail reinforcements. Sheet metal repairs were reportedly performed to the front under prior ownership, and stone chips on the nose have been touched up. A dent is noted near the power-retractable antenna.
The 949 Racing 15″ 6UL wheels are wrapped in 205/50 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71 R tires with production date codes from 2017. Supermiata Xida XL adjustable coilovers have been fitted, and they are equipped with Supermiata top hats and Hyperco springs. Anti-lock braking is from power-assisted discs with StopTech brake pads. A brake fluid flush was completed in 2022, at which time the rear wheel bearings were replaced.
The Marrad bucket seats are trimmed in black and brown leather. A fire extinguisher is mounted to the yellow Blackbird Fabworx GT3 roll bar, which is fitted with a black cover from Bethania Garage. Additional interior appointments include Delrin door and shifter bushings along with air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, metal pedal covers, Miata Special Edition-branded floor mats, and an AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo linked to a Bose sound system. The glove box door is sagging, and the roll bar and seats interfere with the seat belt retraction.
The black and brown leather-trimmed Nardi steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 124k miles, approximately 700 of which were added by the seller.
The 1.8-liter DOHC inline-four was factory rated at 142 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. A sticker in the engine bay indicates that the timing belt was changed in 2016, and the rear main seal is said to have been replaced in 2019.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential that was replaced in 2022. Work under previous ownership reportedly included the replacement of the clutch master and slave cylinders as well as the installation of a Supermiata clutch and braided stainless-steel clutch lines.
Various spare and removed parts are included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows the aforementioned March 2009 accident report and March 2016 damage report, and it lists history in California and Washington.
