This 1955 Mercury Montclair convertible is finished in black over yellow and black upholstery, and it is powered by a replacement 292ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to have been refurbished in the mid-1980s and again in the early 2000s. Equipment includes red wheels, styled wheel covers, dual exhaust, power steering, power brakes, an AM radio, and a heater. An electric fuel pump has been installed, and the wheel cylinders and the radiator reportedly were replaced in recent years. This Montclair is now offered by the selling dealer with an Ohio title.
Mercury built 10,668 examples of the Montclair convertible for 1955. This car was repainted in black approximately 20 years ago, according to the seller. Features include a black soft top, a black top boot, rear fender skirts, chrome-finished bumpers and trim, and dual exhaust outlets that exit underneath the rear bumper.
Red-finished 15″ steel wheels wear styled covers and are wrapped in whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes. The drum brakes’ cylinders are said to have been recently replaced.
The refreshed interior features black-and-yellow upholstery over the bench seating surfaces and the door panels, while black carpeting covers the floors. Appointments include an AM radio, a heater, and a clock.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows less than 10 miles, and true mileage is unknown.
The 292ci V8 is said to be a replacement component, and it features a four-barrel carburetor and Mercury-branded valve covers. An electric fuel pump has been installed, and the radiator has been replaced. The selling dealer changed the fluids in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
