This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 250SL is finished in Horizon Blue over blue MB-Tex upholstery and is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was repainted Horizon Blue during the refurbishment in the early 1990s and features dark blue pinstripes, a blue soft top, a dark blue removable hardtop, and US-specification headlights.
Body-color 14″ steel wheels feature bright trim rings and hubcaps with painted centers, and they are mounted with 185/75 Michelin Radial XH tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The power steering pump was replaced in September 2020.
The cabin is trimmed in blue MB-Tex with a matching dash pad and door panels, a body-color dashboard, and gray squareweave carpets. The car is equipped with an underdash air conditioning system, and the Becker Europa radio is inoperative.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 4,400 miles, and total mileage is unknown. The speedometer cable was replaced in March 2021.
The 2.5-liter M129 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 170 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque when new.The valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, crankshaft seal, timing chain tensioner, and coolant hoses were replaced between 2020 and 2021.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The shifter bushings and transmission pan gasket were replaced in 2021.
