This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was purchased new through importer Cederwall-Larsen & Patt A/S of Oslo, Norway, by the original owner while on vacation in Europe. It was subsequently brought to the US in the early 1960s and remained with the original owner’s family in Omaha, Nebraska, until the mid-2010s. Finished in black, the car features a black convertible top and removable hardtop along with 13″ steel wheels with body-color hubcaps. On the inside, the front bucket seats are trimmed in red leather and accompanied by a rear “Kinder” jump seat as well as a Becker AM/FM radio and shortwave adapter. Power is supplied by a 1.9-liter M121 inline-four fitted with dual Solex PHH carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission. Work in preparation for the sale is noted to have involved refurbishing the fuel system, rebuilding the shifter, and replacing the battery and spark plugs. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2024, this 190SL is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, purchase documents, service records, a tool roll and jack, a paint touch-up pen, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The car is finished in black and features a removable large-window hardtop as well as a black convertible top with a red vinyl top boot. Additional details include a bright windshield surround, grille, and bumpers. Clearcoat was applied to the hood and decklid finish under previous ownership.
Steel 13″ wheels wear chrome trim rings and hubcaps with body-color accents. BFG Silvertown whitewall tires measuring 185/80 are mounted at all four corners. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes.
The low-back bucket seats have been retrimmed in red leather and are accompanied by a color-coordinated rear “Kinder” jump seat. Amenities include a VDO analog clock along with a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio and Reims shortwave adapter.
The two-spoke steering wheel is finished in ivory and wears a chrome horn ring. VDO instrumentation consists of a 7k-rpm tachometer and a 140-mph speedometer along with gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, less than 150 of which have been added by the selling dealer.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four is equipped with dual Solex PHH carburetors. Factory-rated output was 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. Work in preparation for the sale is said to have involved replacing the battery and spark plugs along with refurbishing the fuel system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. The shifter was rebuilt in preparation for the sale, according to the selling dealer.
